Apo-Diclo (Diclofenac Sodium) is taken so as to alleviate moderate inflammation and pain. Experts widely believe that it works by affecting cyclo-oxygenase action, thereby interfering with and disrupting the production of inflammatory prostaglandins. These prostaglandins function as mediators of inflammation, and preventing their production leads to analgesic and antipyretic effects. Because of this, it is widely used in the treatment of various rheumatic conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout attacks and non-articular rheumatism). Other indications include post-operative pain, soreness caused by serious inflammatory conditions affecting various parts of the body and other conditions which have not been listed here.
Apo-Diclo (Diclofenac Sodium) comes in the form of 25mg or 50mg strength enteric coated tablets. After the condition has been diagnosed, your physician will assess the risk to benefit ratio and calculate the required dosage. Patients are normally treated with the lowest possible dosage for the shortest period of time so as to minimize the risk of side effects. In cases of acute pain which is moderate to severe in nature, the physician may direct the patient to take a dosage ranging from 100mg to 150mg per day, given as 2 to 3 separate doses. Milder symptoms may be treated with a lower dosage. The tablets are usually administered before meals, with a glass of water.
Treatment of pain or any other conditions with Apo-Diclo (Diclofenac Sodium) may lead to some patients experiencing side effects. You must tell the physician if this occurs. Examples include:
There are also other reactions that patients may experience during treatment. Some of these are serious and will require that you get medical attention straight away. Examples of this include reduced or no urination, sudden swelling, fever, visual problems, speech difficulty and other serious side effects that have not been referenced here.
Physicians only recommend treatment with Apo-Diclo (Diclofenac Sodium) in cases where the benefits of treatment are deemed to outweigh any possible risks. It should also be noted that it will only relieve pain, and will not treat or cure the disease or condition responsible for causing symptoms.
This medicine could trigger gastrointestinal discomfort, and in rare cases, serious perforation of the stomach, ulceration or bleeding may occur. Some patients may be particularly at risk of this, due to their medical history. Discuss this with your physician prior to beginning treatment.
