Aropax

Aropax (Paroxetine) is used to treat the low moods and depression caused by major depressive disorder and other conditions. Other indications include PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), social anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Some patients have also taken it for post traumatic stress, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), general anxiety disorder and menopausal hot flashes. This medication is classified as an SSRI, however experts have stated that its chemical structure is not related to other SSRIs or antidepressants. Its efficacy in the treatment of depression and other related conditions is believed to be due to it potentiating the activity of serotonin in the brain, which it achieves by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin.

Aropax (Paroxetine) tablets are administered orally. Each one contains 20mg of the active ingredient. Your physician will individualize the dosage, and it is worth noting that the required amount can vary based on the condition being treated. Adults affected by depression, social anxiety disorder or GAD may be instructed by their physician to take 20mg (one tablet) per day. The physician in charge of treatment might decide that it is necessary to gradually increase the dosage over a period of time. Other conditions might need a different dosage, and it is therefore very important that you listen carefully to all instructions given by your physician.

If you notice any side effects while taking Aropax (Paroxetine) tablets, ensure that you report all the related details to this to your physician. Possible reactions may include:

• Headache
• Reduction in appetite
• Difficulty sleeping properly
• Alterations in sense of taste
• Lower than normal libido or impotence

Immediately consult your physician if you notice any signs of or suffer from blurry or tunnel vision, soreness in the eyes, tender or sore bones, hallucinations, fever or any other severe adverse events which have not been referenced here.

Abrupt and sudden discontinuation of treatment with Aropax (Paroxetine) may lead to some patients experiencing withdrawal symptoms, which can include vertigo, anxiety, tremors, perspiration, nausea and other symptoms. Your physician may gradually lower your dosage when stopping treatment so as to avoid this.

Hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood) may occur as a result of taking this antidepressant. If you suffer from drowsiness, confusion or any other symptoms indicative of this, consult your physician. A blood test to check your sodium levels may be needed.

Antidepressants could cause an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. This may be related to the age of the patient or other individual factors. Consult your physician immediately if you notice any sudden behavioral changes or suicidal thoughts during treatment.
