Description
Brufen (Ibuprofen) is used to treat pain which is mild to moderate in nature. It is also taken to reduce pain and other symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Other uses include headaches, migraines, neuralgia, colds and flu. This medicine is an NSAID (an abbreviation for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) with pain relieving properties. It also exhibits anti pyretic action. Although experts are not entirely sure of all the details relating to how it works, it is widely believed to act by inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandins (mediators of pain and swelling in the body). Medical studies have demonstrated its effectiveness in controlling and relieving pain.
Brufen (Ibuprofen) is available as 400mg tablets and an 800mg sustained release variety. The dosing schedule and duration of treatment may vary slightly from patient to patient, and it will be the responsibility of your physician to instruct you with regard to this. Patients treating pain which is mild or moderate may be told by their physician to use the 400mg strength variety, and to administer 400mg (one tablet) regularly, every 4 to 6 hours. Other conditions or disorders might need treatment with a dosage schedule which differs to that listed above. Generally, the physician will consider the patient`s response to the treatment when deciding upon the optimum daily dosage.
Administration of Brufen (Ibuprofen) might lead to side effects. You must inform your physician if this occurs. Possible examples are listed here:

- Constipation or diarrhea
- Feeling nervous or anxious
Should you suffer from seizures, severe headaches, blistering on the skin which is serious in nature, sudden weight gain, difficulty balancing or any other serious side effects, consult your physician immediately.
Brufen (Ibuprofen) might cause serious skin reactions (such as toxic epidermal necrolysis) in rare cases. Any sores or other signs of skin reactions will require immediate stopping of treatment and medical attention.
Bleeding in the stomach has been known to occur in some cases as a result of taking this medicine. If this occurs, medical treatment will be needed straight away.
