Efudix Cream (Fluorouracil) is a topical anti-neoplastic with anti-cancerous properties which is prescribed to treat solar keratoses, multiple actinic, and other health problems caused by over-exposure to UV rays. It is widely used for the treatment of superficial basal cell carcinoma or scaly lesions on the skin occurring as a result of over exposure to the sun. Fluorouracil works by destroying the abnormal skin cells that occur in skin cancer or other conditions.
Efudix Cream (Fluorouracil) is to be used in accordance with the instructions of a doctor. Patients are usually told to apply it twice per day to the area of skin that needs treatment. Correct and suitable dosage will depend on the patient and condition being treated.
The following steps are provided only as a rough guideline. Wash both your hands and the area of skin to be treated and administer the cream directly onto the skin using gloves. After this, massage it gently into the skin and allow to air dry uncovered. Immediately wash your hands after use and put the tube away in a safe place.
Application of Efudix Cream (Fluorouracil) may cause:
If any signs of side effects are noticed after you apply this cream, you should tell your doctor. Severe reactions are also possible. You must immediately see your doctor if you notice a severe red rash on the skin, fever, bloody diarrhoea or any other serious side effects.
Never apply Efudix Cream (Fluorouracil) to skin that is broken, as this could result in the cream being absorbed into the blood, which could result in side effects.
The area of skin that is being treated may become inflamed, red or uncomfortable, after which skin erosion will occur, followed by healing. However, if you are worried about the effects of this cream, see your doctor immediately.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
