Vyfat

Vyfat (Orlistat) is prescribed to help patients lose weight by reducing the amount of fat absorbed into the body. It is commonly used to treat patients who are dangerously overweight or at risk for serious health conditions such as hypertension, high cholesterol, heart disease, or diabetes.

The normal dosage of Vyfat (Orlistat) is one capsule taken orally along with a glass of water at each main meal. This treatment is normally prescribed along with a balanced and mildly reduced-calorie diet that contains no more than about 30 percent of calories from fat. Never open or dissolve the content of the capsules to avoid destroying or changing the effects of their contents.

Side effects generally occur within the first few weeks of using Vyfat (Orlistat) and tend to subside later in the treatment phase. These may include oily spotting, gas with discharge, oily or fatty stools, or an increased number of bowel movements. These side effects indicate that the medicine is working and only occur early on in treatment or after a high fat meal. Contact your physician immediately if you experience any unusual symptoms that worry you.

Do not use Vyfat (Orlistat) if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have chronic malabsorption syndrome. Also disclose if you have epilepsy, hypotyroidism, or long term kidney disease as these conditions may cause unexpected complications.
