Celapram

Celapram (Citalopram Hydrobromide) is an antidepressant which works on the central nervous system to enhance the effects of serotonin. Clinical trials conducted on this selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of major depressive episodes, and it was also shown to help maintain antidepressant effects for as long as 24 weeks following a 6 to 8 week acute treatment period.

Experts have theorized that its mechanism of action is inhibiting the reuptake of 5-HT (serotonin) in the brain, thereby potentiating serotonergic activity and relieving feelings of depression. Some patients have also taken this medicine for anxiety, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), body dysmorphic disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, dysthymia and various other conditions. A number of studies have also taken place to further understand its potential efficacy in the treatment of premature ejaculation.

Celapram (Citalopram Hydrobromide) comes as 20mg tablets for oral use. Your physician will assess your symptoms to determine whether or not this particular antidepressant is a suitable treatment option for you. If treatment is recommended, it is possible that you may be instructed to begin with 20mg (1 tablet) taken once per day. This may be increased by the physician to 40mg per day, however it is also possible that the dosage will not be increased for maintenance treatment.

During treatment with Celapram (Citalopram Hydrobromide) tablets, pay close attention to your health and report any side effects to your physician. These could include:

• Insomnia
• Sore joints
• Body weight loss or changes
• Sneezing and other common cold symptoms
• Impotence, low libido or other sexual problems

The list of reactions given above is not complete and other adverse events are also possible, some of which may be severe. Call your physician or attend the hospital straight away if you suffer from sore eyes, tunnel or blurry eyesight, tremors, hallucinations (seeing things which are not there), low sodium levels or any other severe side effects which are not referenced here.

Discontinuation of treatment with Celapram (Citalopram Hydrobromide) may result in adverse effects, which can include dizziness, paresthesias, insomnia, sleep problems, a confused or anxious feeling, as well as other possible reactions. Your physician may recommend a gradual reduction in dosage instead of abrupt cessation, and may also wish to monitor you for withdrawal symptoms.

SSRI antidepressants (such as this one) could place patients at an increased risk of bleeding, and this may be especially true of some patients due to their medical history. Ensure that you discuss this with your physician. Get medical help immediately if any signs of bleeding are noticed.

Antidepressants could increase the risk of suicidal thoughts, and you should be aware of this risk. Stay in regular contact with your physician and report any disturbing or sudden changes in mood or behavior.
