Finast

Finast (Finasteride) is used for treating and enlarged prostate, and it is also used by men wishing to treat male pattern baldness. This medicine can shrink the prostate in men affected by benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH), which is important, as an enlarged prostate can put the urethra and bladder under pressure, leading to urination problems. Treatment with this drug relieves these symptoms, and may even reduce the need for surgery. It achieves this by decreasing the levels of the hormone that causes prostate enlargement (DHT).

Men affected by mild to moderate hair loss often take medicine containing the same ingredient as this one, as it has been shown to cause visible regrowth of hair, and may also stop hair from falling out. This is due to reducing the amount of DHT present in the scalp.

Before starting treatment with Finast (Finasteride) tablets, you must go and see your physician for a medical assessment. The most common dosage for BPH is 5mg per day, however, in all cases, your physician will tell you how much to take, and you must follow all dosage instructions given. The usual dosage for hair loss prescribed to adult men is 1mg per day. Only take the amount of medicine that your physician prescribes to you. It is also important to note that taking more than 1mg of this drug per day will not make the hair grow back faster, so patients are advised to strictly follow their physician`s instructions.

Treatment with Finast (Finasteride) may sometimes lead to side effects, such as:

• Depression
• Breast enlargement
• Poor quality semen
• Testicular pain
• The inability to achieve or maintain an erection

It is possible that some of the side effects listed above will go away if the patient stops taking the medicine. However, in some cases, sexual side effects which continue after treatment stops may occur. You must seek medical attention as soon as possible if you experience nipple discharge, breast pain, any signs of a lump on the breast or any other serious symptoms.

These tablets are only prescribed to adult men, and should never be used by women or children. Women who are pregnant should never handle the medicine, especially broken or cut pills. This is to prevent the medication being absorbed into the body through the skin.

Although it is not considered to be common, taking this medicine may increase the risk of male breast cancer or cancer of the prostate.
