Spectra (Doxepin) is classified as a TCA (tricyclic antidepressant) and it is indicated for depression, anxiety and certain symptoms of manic depressive conditions. Although medical researchers have yet to definitively determine its precise mechanism of action, it has been theorized by experts that its antidepressant benefits are due to the inhibition of norepinephrine reuptake in the nerve terminals of the brain. Resulting from this, norepinephrine and other neurotransmitters are able to enhance the mood of the patient. Spectra (Doxepin) capsules come as 25mg or 75mg strength varieties. Individual factors which dictate the required dosage include the severity of the symptoms and the exact condition which needs to be treated.
